Ulrike Finck visits the Gardens of the World in Berlin-Marzahn. Here, the annual highlight, Sakura, the Japanese cherry blossom, is currently taking place. Nestled among numerous prefabricated apartment buildings, the park boasts the most numerous and arguably most beautiful ornamental cherry blossoms in the entire Berlin metropolitan area. Alongside park ambassador Beate Reuber, Ulrike Finck learns about the meticulous attention to detail with which the Japanese, Korean, and Chinese gardens were originally designed. Not only the planting but also the choice of materials played a crucial role.
